A huge shoutout to my parents for doing the majority of the work on Dolly’s IKEA kitchen! They deserve more credit than I do. Without their help, all the parts would probably still be sitting in our garage, haha!
Here’s a little before and after of what the kitchen would have looked like if we had put it together prior to making any changes:

First things first, we sanded all the natural-colored wood pieces as well as the countertop. This isn’t absolutely necessary, but I wanted to get the yellow-ish tones out of the wood. Then I painted the right-side cabinet with black chalkboard paint, and spray painted all the gray plastic parts black.

Then we added vinyl cement to the countertop to make this gray concrete contact paper stick well. We also attached a piece of wood to make the backsplash, and added these white stick-on subway tiles.
I found some plastic mason jars on amazon to hold these cute pink utensils, and I also thought the cutting board and rolling pin would be fun additions to the countertop when not being thrown around the house. 😉

These Melissa & Doug stainless steel pots & pans fit perfectly in the upper shelves. I spent way too much time trying to find children’s play bakeware (i.e. muffin tins, baking sheet, etc.) and when I couldn’t find any, I went with this toaster oven bakeware — and it’s perfect!

I also had a hard time finding wooden tableware that I loved. The ones I went with were a bit pricier than what I expected, but Dolly plays with these every single day, carrying them all over the house. They’re definitely worth it, in my opinion. This wooden mixer is another amazon find that I thought would look cute with the farmhouse theme we have going on.

A few other things I thought would be cute additions were this white metal pitcher that I filled with some flower stems found in the Target dollar section, and this dust pan from Etsy. I had my eye on this personalized ruffle apron for a while, and I’m so glad I got it. Dolly looks way too cute in it! And I feel like this hey y’all floral cow towel just completes her kitchen.
