My 2021 Word of the Year: Nurture | Meekly Loving by Sydney Meek

Is it too late to say Happy New Year? Haha, don’t answer that. I usually choose one word to encompass the goals I have for myself throughout the year, because that tends to stick with me better than a list of resolutions would. The words I’ve chosen the past couple years have been intentional, present and rest.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from the Instagram world, it’s this: I must fill up my own cup in order to overflow to others. I always hope to make my little corner of the internet an encouraging space, but it’s difficult to do so when I’m pouring from an empty cup. So I’ve decided that I’m going to put more effort into taking care of myself and those around me first. My word of the year for 2021 will be NURTURE: the process of caring for and encouraging the growth or development of someone or something.

I want to nurture my physical health by staying active and strengthening my body.
I want to nurture my home by making it a place where everyone feels welcome.
I want to nurture my faith by prioritizing the Lord in all seasons.
I want to nurture my relationships by checking-in on friends and cheering them on.
I want to nurture my hobbies by giving myself time to learn and grow.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”  —  Romans 12:2

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”  —  Philippians 4:8

Do you have a word or resolution for 2021? I want to hear about it!
