Speaking Up For The Voiceless | Meekly Loving by Sydney Meek

“Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live.” – Deuteronomy 30:19

January is Sanctity of Human Life month, with the National March for Life on the 20th, and National Sanctity of Human Life Day on the 22nd; so I thought it was fitting to share some information on abortions, the impact they have on women, and the many ways you can learn more or get involved with pro-life ministries and organizations.

2,363.

2,363 innocent babies are killed through abortion every day in America. The sad, and brutal, reality is that abortions do not prevent life, but forcefully end it. I’ll share some resources later in this post that explain the common procedures. My intention is not to write this post out of condemnation, but to speak up and be a voice for the voiceless. How can these babies stand up for their own rights if they aren’t given the right to live in the first place?

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them; the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” – Psalm 139:13-16

All life is knitted, woven, and written by God. It is God-given, God-ordained, and God-breathed. The opposite of life  —  death  —  should not be a solution to…
unplanned or unwanted pregnancies,
poverty,
suffering,
abuse,
rape,
foster care,
or disabilities.

Death is not a compassionate solution to the potential suffering or diagnosis of a child. I can’t even begin to imagine how traumatic an abortion could be, but it will never erase or bring justice to the pain of suffering done to the mother. Nor should any baby have to bear the burden and suffer a fatal consequence for the actions of their father or mother. And to those who have gone through any of the trials listed above  —  you are not deemed unworthy of life because of your circumstances. No matter how a child is conceived, they are created in the image of God.

“Why, even the hairs on your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.” – Luke 12:7

Women who experience unplanned pregnancies also deserve to experience unplanned joy through the gift of children. I pray for these women, and that they don’t make the decision to end a life out of fear for the unknown of their own. There is hope. Our God is not a God of condemnation; but of love, hope, joy, forgiveness, restoration, comfort and peace.

“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.” – Ephesians 1:7

RESOURCES

Below are links for videos from LiveAction on each kind of abortion procedure. They’re horribly graphic, but I believe are necessary to anyone forming an opinion for or against abortions:

Another incredible resource that I think is essential to understanding life in the womb is Baby Olivia, a medically-accurate animation from LiveAction.

Unplanned and Abortion. are both great documentaries to watch.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

Foster care and adoption are essential, but not the only ways you can help care for women and orphans.
Donate to local pregnancy centers or any of the organizations previously listed
Volunteer at local pregnancy centers or for any previously mentioned organizations
Open up your home to a single or pregnant mother in crisis
Provide transportation to prenatal appointments
Make meals or babysit for pregnant mothers or those who are fostering or adopting
Become an advocate for any of the previously listed organizations or for foster children
Pray that hearts would be softened and lives would be saved

“Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will he not repay man according to his work?” – Proverbs 24:11-12
